Introduction
Contemporary Industries Ltd., a unit of the Saharia Group is the International Trading Division of the century-old, well known and experienced organisation, having several tea plantations and manufacturing units in Assam.
Tea is thoroughly ingrained in Contemporary’s heritage. Our experience goes back to being one of the first few Indians as tea planters.
We have made considerable developments over the decades in the way our teas are produced, always striving to maintain highest quality. Our Goal is to produce the finest teas starting from the plucking process to the time we grade our teas and pack them for selling.
Each of our estates produces their own brand of tea, unique in its flavour, taste and character.
Overview of our Estates
Tarajan Tea Estate
“Tarajan”, meaning ‘Star Stream’ in Assamese, is a picturesque Tea Estate situated in Upper Assam on the banks of the romantic river Dehing.
Tarajan Tea Estate has a total area of 3000 acres with the tea area being approx 750 acres. The garden specialises in the CTC(Crush, Tear and Curl) process of making the teas, producing the famous Chai or Masala Chai.
Diksam Tea Estate
Diksam is a young garden near Moran in Dibrugarh District which specialises in Orthodox teas.
Its teas, having a unique malty taste ,are much sought after in countries like Japan, Germany, Holland and France
Hapjan Purbat Tea Estate
Hapjan Purbat Tea Estate is located near the town of Namrup in the Dibrugarh District of Assam. This tea estate produces both the Conventional orthodox teas as well as the CTC (Crush, Tear and Curl) teas.|
A large part of the teas estate comprises of Clonal tea bushes which gives its produce a unique taste and flavour.

Our company understands and believes that business should always be carried out in a responsible way. Therefore, we have strived to create ways for positive social impact and environment- friendly agendas.
We have created self-sufficient “villages” in each of our estates having fully-equipped hospital, dispensary, crèche, school, club etc. We provide sickness and maternity benefits, bonuses, pensions etc to our workers.
We also engage in afforestation and sanitation activities across our gardens.
